Tis the season of glimmering lights, bellowing laughs, family, friends and holiday fun. However, ‘tis also the season of exhaustion too.

Between professional and college deadlines, shoppers that resort to toddler-like behavior, air travel that’s packed with people who show anything but holiday spirit and that business party you’ve unwillingly agreed to attend, which makes the DMV look like an island paradise–December might actually be a better time to hide than to celebrate.

Without question, December is a busy, exhausting and expensive month; however, this perhaps is an extreme example of the holiday blues.

But for those who DO feel lethargic and unmotivated to enjoy this “special” time of year, here are a few things you can do in the comfort of your home; and hopefully, remind you why December is actually the best time of year.

Bake. Ah, remember the nostalgic and delicious scents of grandma’s Christmas cookies. Nothing will put you in a better state-of-mind than reminiscing of the past, and what better way to do that than with baking. Spending time in the kitchen is also a great time for being together with the family, learning a new recipe, laughing, making a mistake, making a mess and building holiday memories that will last a lifetime.

Movie ‘Holiday’ Marathon. With everyone home from work and school, the holidays give families and friends plenty of time for enjoying home entertainment. And is there a better time to turn on the tube than when it’s Christmas time and indulge in the countless holiday classics?

And if finding a particular movie, show or theme is hard to come by, click here to find endless varieties in satellite television entertainment.

Play a game. From chess to Monopoly, from puzzles to acting out an intense game of charades, the holiday season is a rare opportunity to spend time with love ones you may not see often. Take advantage of every idea you have and involve the whole family with a playful game.

Decorate. Whether it’s hanging a single ornament on the Christmas tree or showering the floors with snow-like confetti, decorating during the holidays can be a fun, stress-relieving break for the normal routine of home cleaning and chores. Light the fireplace, bedazzle the rooftop with illuminating lights, throw on that “ugly holiday sweater” and most importantly, do your best to relax and enjoy this time of year, as it will be gone before you know it.

Post-Holiday Chores. Ok, so this activity is far less fun and appealing to you and probably the rest of your family; however, once Christmas time has ended, it’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on the many household chores than need to be taken care of. And since everyone is home and off for the holidays, you have all the help you will need to get things done. From de-decorating the Christmas tree ornaments to shoveling the now outside the driveway; family-chores aren’t always the most exciting, but it’s an additional opportunity to spend time together, whether or not it’s doing something enjoyable.
